Chalk drawings

Yesterday was the chalk drawing day at Forsythe Park, here in Savannah.
Although we didn't go to watch them being drawn, we can walk around there this afternoon. These are a few of the drawings

This one was my favorie, and probably that of many people,
Continuing the religious theme, here is the last supper featuring Lego people
Many of the artists create lovely rich colors
I like the dimensional aspect of this one

On our way out, I visited with this cardinal for a few minutes.  Too bad I didn't have a better camera,
There was a female around too, but she was a bit more shy,

Hi, and some photo filters

Well, as you might observe, I'm back in Savannah for a couple of weeks, and tonight I was fiddling around with the picture editing features on Picasa,
This morning's sunlight came in so nicely on the coffee table:
 Doesn't it look dramatic...
and with this other filter, the colors on the table runner and pottery just pop:

this one even seems to have some sort of spotlight focused on the bowl..
These last two photos are unaltered, and are other tables that I like, at Back in the Day Bakery,
I'm working up to doing some sewing, maybe tomorrow.
Just wanted to say hi.

Sunday at the Landings

The long tablerunner:
Today the time had come to quilt it.  I haven't been doing much sewing lately, having been much taken up with working with clay.
However, I tidied up my sewing room and sat down and started to quilt.  It just has straight lines running it's length.  As you can see, I am halfway through binding it as well, having chosen a nice bright green that co-0rdinates nicely with the back.

I also spent some time today transferring photos around from my ipad to laptop, and having a little fun with them.  This one is a part of the previous photo,  tweaked by the "pencil drawing" effect on the Picasa photo software,
The mandevilla vine has started blooming, which is nice, having spent the last several months twining itself around the banister of the back deck,

I took these photos a couple of days ago, when it was really nice out.  Today it is nice too, but very windy as we are waiting to see what the tropical storm Beryl plans to do.
I am starting to get excited about returning to Saskatoon and my yard!

Chalk drawings

When we walked back through the park these were some of the drawings,

Your blogger on the go

This is a mobile post as I meandered through the morning... We went down to Forsyth Park to take in the sidewalk chalk drawing competition sponsored by SCAD. (first picking up a homemade peach Popsicle at the farmers market)
the sidewalk squares had been numbered --the highest number I noticed was 594, so I'm not too sure how high they go. The participants pick up a package of sideway chalks and can start at 11 a.m.
There are different strategies. Some have a sketch to follow or have made a scale template or stencil. It is also common to combine water with the chalk in some manner.
This guy also brought his pet...turtle.
Later on I want to go back to see some finished drawings

My Spring Day

The past few days have really been spring here,  with azaleas Everywhere! and now the garden centers are bringing out bedding plants.  We had some grass dug up a couple of days ago to turn into a larger area with ground cover instead and so we went out and got some ivy and other stuff to put in there, and picked up some really pretty snapdragons as well-- I don't think I've ever seen this ombre effect before:

Of course once we were out and about, we had to go for coffee!
One of my favorite coffee spots here is called Foxy Loxy, and it's in an old house, and I think that they might make the best coffee I've had in Savannah,  (I know, I know, I love Gallery Espresso too!)  I took richard there today, and it has a courtyard in the back.  It was so peaceful and pleasant back there.
Home again, I have finished the double wedding ring quilt!  Yes, it even has the binding finished....
and it lays flat! and I didn't have to quilt in the colored parts-- that tells you how wonky it was before i quilted it.
These are some of the quilting designs that I was quite happy with:

4 leaves
flower garden
butterfly like flowers
wavy line cross-hatching
radiating bubbles
snail
like a field
 And this is the piece of furniture we picked up the other day at the garage sale;
It has faux finishes, and some cute little lace paneled doors,
and the front drawers opens up and down into a desk surface
I love furniture that has curvy parts!
Well that's my report for today.
Except that I have been bitten by the clay bug.
Also, I plan to make popovers now that Deirdre has sent me a link to a mouthwatering looking recipe.

Also... it is Wednesday, so It is ithe link-up to the needle and thread Network page:
