A Big Beach Party Thank you!!

A huge "thank you!!" goes out to everyone who came to the Staycation Beach Party yesterday!  We had beach balls hanging from the lights; vintage bathing suits hanging on the wall; four different versions of our complimentary quilt pattern "Under the Boardwalk" designed by our very own Sandy Cook, hanging on the wall.  We introduced our February (and first) edition of our "Pincushion of the Month" and we had beach music and refreshments which included sand dollar cookies and blue whales!  At times it was wall-to-wall quilters!  What a time we had!  It was great to see everyone and catch up with news and happenings.  We are truly blessed!
Post-party keep your eyes out for more new kits, new services and of course, new fabrics, patterns and notions!  You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram too!

The end of a great day.....

A New Year and a New Beginning!

Hello!  And Happy New Year!  2017 is going to be a big year of firsts for me.  One of those firsts will be owning a quilt shop!  As of today I am the new owner of Periwinkle Quilting and Beyond.  It's been several months in the making with lots of preparation and paper work!  And I have to thank Michelle for giving me this wonderful opportunity.  Without her encouragement and mentorship it just wouldn't be happening.
I will give you a little bit of information about myself for those of you who don't know me.  After graduating from the U of S my husband and I moved to Toronto where I worked at the head office of The Body Shop Canada.  It was there that my love of retail was established.  We moved back to Saskatoon to be "home" with our families.  I owned a little maternity lease wear business for a few short years until my own children took precedent and I sold the business to be at home with them.  My passion for quilting was ignited in 2000 and with the encouragement of my dear friend, Brenda, I joined the Saskatoon Quilters' Guild and found new friends who loved quilting as much as I did. On a chance visit to her quilt shop I began working for Michelle at Periwinkle which lasted from 2002 to 2014.  I loved being able to help and learn from the customers that came and went from the shop.    Quilters are very special people.   I took time away from the shop these last two years to be with my Dad and my siblings as we helped Mom with her cancer journey which then became time to adapt to life without her.
It was this fall that I found myself at loose ends.  My children are grown and finishing their post-secondary educations and beginning their own independent lives.  So what a good time to make a change and do something I love.  The opportunity to purchase Periwinkle presented itself and the rest, as they say, is history!
I am so looking forward to visiting with everyone who comes to Periwinkle.  I am excited to be able to bring new fabrics, notions, books and patterns into the shop.  And I am super excited about the expanded offering of classes.  More classes.  More projects.  You will be able to see the project samples in the classroom very soon!  And we will also open the classroom to customers who would just like a place to come and sew.  It is my wish that Periwinkle becomes a fun and welcoming place for quilters to gather.
So with this excitement in mind I wish you all a wonderful and very quilty 2017!

ps.  Save the date! Saturday, January 28th.  Periwinkle is planning a Staycation Beach Party!  There will be refreshments, door prizes,  and even a small gift with purchase!  We hope you can come!

Being Two

With the upcoming plan to start the Longarm Studio, I have been doing lots of computer stuff.  I am setting up a website, and instagram feed, and registering a facebook page.  At the same time, I am trying to maintain the current Periwinkle stuff.  It makes me feel like I am spending a lot of time online!

It will be good that we will be working so closely with Periwinkle after the changeover as well, since there are sure to be things that I haven't thought of yet!

So far, these are some links to the new locations, if you are interested in bookmarking them, or following, or forwarding them, or whatever one does!

The Big News of the Day

Big News!
Periwinkle Quilting has been around now for just over 15 years!

and the time has come for it to get a new owner! I have enjoyed so many aspects of this business -- most of all the creativity and joy that quilting adds to one's life. I experience it with every project I tackle, and am inspired by every photo I see, and each project that customers share. The second major blessing from this 15 year project has been interacting with both customers and the staff. Some of each have been around since the very beginning!

It is with real pleasure that I am handing over the store to Patti Erikson-Reynolds, who has recently had a bit if a break from being in the shop, but has over ten years working at the store. However, her real talent has been shopping for fabric, and she has over 20 years experience with that! she has had a longarm for the past several years, and has quilted a large numbers of the samples that you might have seen in the shop.
I am pretty excited to see what she has planned! I am sure that we will see her personality shine through in the fabrics and kits she will choose to stock in the future.
I am also happy to report that the current staff will largely stay the same, so you will be assured of their continued excellent service.

Which brings us to the topic of my "departure"...... I will be holding on to one aspect of the business-- Longarm Lucey! I am currently looking at various locations to set up a studio for her in Saskatoon. It will be a longarm rental service, and I might even venture into doing a bit of quilting for customers too! If you have any prepaid hours, they will just be applicable to Lucey wherever she is in Saskatoon. If you have any concerns or questions about the new location, just let me know, and I can give you more information. I have twisted Nancy's arm to come and help me in this new venture, too! Hooray!

which brings us to the topic of some Sales!
From now until the switcheroo, which should be around mid to late December, I will be offering some sales with two goals in mind. First, I want to celebrate that it's been pretty great to have the customers that we have walk through the door, and try to thank you by offering some great deals. Secondly, I want to get the inventory slimmed down a bit so that Patti has more leeway to bring in a whole whack of fresh stuff that will reflect her outlook.

It has been a great adventure! Now it's time to go on another journey.
