EPP sew along

Today I pulled out a small EPP project; again one of the patterns from Katja Marek's new book called The New Hexagon.

It is made from just one block sewn down to a felt backing to use as a candle mat.

I am getting ready for the Millefiore Quilt Along that anyone can participate in!  All you need is to get your own copy of the book, and then register on Katja's web page.  She will email you instructions for a rosette each month!  The first one starts in just a few days, January!

Progress with the EPP

As the title today declares, I am making some progress with my English Paper Piecing project from the book The New Hexagon, by Katja Marek.   So far I have stitched up twelve little blocks:

there is quite a range in terms of different combinations of fabrics and shapes from one block to another,  although I can see which colours seem to be my favorites.

I am Still pondering what to do with them

Right now they are like little jewels...

I have also been thinking about whether there might be interest in forming a paper piecing club/club in the new year.   it would be something like a once/ month time... any suggestions or feedback?  

Another UFO

While I was on my kick of re-purposing UFOs, I hauled out this little applique picture that I had started a few years ago. 

It was a project inspired by the work of Janet Bolton, 

who you can learn more about on her website, , or you can google her name and look at images of her work, such as this one, 

she is amazing!   

Any how, a few of us had gotten together and started little applique pictures in her style.  

I had gotten quite far with it, and I liked parts of the picture, such as this little corner,

but on the whole I wasn't too excited with it. 

I decided to sew it into a pencil case.  in order to do that, I had to finish a few more petals, and add some lines of quilting to the beige area of background. 

Oddly, after I finished those things, I liked it much better.  So I have decided to leave it as a small picture, rather than make it into a pencil case.

Ongoing hexies

Although I like the quick projects, I do have a few long term projects on the go.  One of these is a hand pieced hexagon quilt.  It began with a pile of vintage partially peiced blocks that I bought at a quilt show.  I started adding to it last year, and this is my progress so far, 

I think that I will add six more of the "flowers",

That will give a square unit, 

So I cut out six more sets of solids for the third round on each flower,

I'll also nee 26 more black and white joining triangle units.  It will be exciting to start joining the larger units together.

I thought that the letter garland I made was looking a bit somber with a bit too many dark colors.  

I changed the ribbon to a lighter color, 

Then I decided to make some more happy looking tiles, 

I need to get some more bright coloured thread.   Also, I want to make some that incorporate some hand embroidery...

Lots of things to try!
